The Ourchive Project is a social initiative that aims to promote literary forms from subaltern communities in the Indian subcontinent to ensure not just their survival but also their proliferation. As indigenous communities hold oral traditions close to their heart, the project is rooted in deciphering the dynamic and versatile possibilities of vibrant oral narratives to ensure they stand the test of time and garner space in contemporary public imagination and history.
At the heart of Ourchive is the vision to construct and curate a repository of original content that raises awareness about the richness of hitherto silenced cultural forms, through which a deep appreciation for these art forms can be fostered in the public sphere. Embedded in values of diversity and inclusivity, the project aims to work towards getting children and young adults to interactively engage with such variegated forms of literature through activity books, workshop sessions, and listening lists - all curated to cultivate an ethical perspective towards viewing and accepting differences. The heartbeat of the project, thus, is to render visible the historically invisibilized artistic and cultural practices of indigenous communities and redraw the boundaries of mainstream history to accommodate diversity.
